El significado de la palabra repostería, tal como lo conocemos hoy en día, no surge hasta principios del siglo XVIII. Anteriormente, la palabra repostería significaba "despensa", ya que era el lugar destinado a almacenar los alimentos y donde, además, se cocinaban pasteles, embutidos y otro tipo de manjares.
Por consiguiente, el repostero era el encargado de coordinar todo lo que se almacenaba y cocinaba en la repostería.
No obstante, se tiene constancia de recetas de repostería desde 7.000 años a.C., en Egipto. En aquel entonces y durante muchos siglos, no se conocía el azúcar y la forma de endulzar los postres era a base de fruta o miel.
Los primeros en poner velas a los pasteles fueron los griegos, quienes preparaban grandes pasteles redondos como la luna para honrar a la diosa Artemisa, la diosa de la caza y los animales salvajes. Una vez llevaban el pastel al templo, soplaban las velas con la intención que el humo llevara consigo sus plegarias hasta el Olimpo.
Para estas galletas hemos utilizado la receta de las galletas de mantequilla aromatizada con vainilla. La decoración es a base de papel de azúcar para el fondo y fondant para hacer las figuritas.

In case you haven’t noticed it yet, we love confectionery, not only the making of, but eating it!
In spansih, the meaning of the word confectionery, as we know it nowadays, it doesn’t arise until the beginning of the XVIIIth century. Previously, the word confectionery meant "larder", as it was the place destined to store the food and also where pastries, sausages and other delicacies were cooked.
Consequently, the confectioner was who coordinated everything that what was stored and cooked in the larder (confectionery in spanish).
Nevertheless, there is record of confectionery recipes dating from 7.000 years B.C., in Egypt. In those days, and for many centuries, sugar wasn’t known, and the way desserts were sweetened was through fruit or honey.
The first ones to put candles in cakes were the Greeks, who prepared big round cakes like the moon to honour Artemis, the hunting and wild animals goddess. Once the cake was taken to the temple, candles were blown so that the smoke took their prayers to the Olympus with it.
Nowadays we keep making wishes when blowing the candles.
For these cookies we have used the buttercookies recipe scented with vanilla. The decoration is made with sugar sheets for the background and fondant to make the little forms.
