How many buttons do we up and undo throughout the day without even noticing it? And what about all through our life, how many times will we do this gesture?
Sometimes the simplest inventions are the most useful and the ones which last over the years. Buttons were already used in the prehistory, but it wasn’t untill the XIIth century that were mass produced.
In the beginning, they were merely used as a decorative element in tunics and robes. Later on they started to be used for the purpose we all know now. But only those who belonged to the highest social classes coud afford to wear them, as they were made of horn or crystal.

It was precisely due to the fact that, in the very beginning, buttons were only within wealthy people's reach, that woman’s clothes buttons do up the other way round of those on man’s shirts and jackets. As they were the maidservants who dressed ladies, seamstresses saw buttons to the right, thus made their work easier.
So in this post we are returning back to the times when buttons were ment to be uniquely a decorative element. Two buttons can simulate to be two flowers, to be part of a shirt or just be buttons.
On this occasion cookies are wild strawberries scented buttercookies decorated with Vichy sugar sheets and fondant buttons. So tasty!
